Are you looking for things to do in Atlanta with the kids now that summer break is approaching (especially the free stuff). I am right along with you. For me sometimes it can be difficult satisfying a 12, 7 and 1 year old all at once. I have found that varying the types of activities and events we attend, allows a little something for everyone. And when lucky I can usually find that in one shot, depending on where you are looking. Below I have listed my favorite go to for finding things to do and places to go. Along with their pros, and a few tips in successfully navigating them. You would truly be surprised how quickly your calendar will fill up after checking out these sites.
1. The Library
Depending on where you live the library can be one of your biggest blessings. Especially during and out of school time. If you have little ones such as 5 and under there’s various types of programs. Such as story times, arts and crafts and pop up performances, usually at no cost. Just check if registration is required first. When I used to homeschool my children there was even a group meet up. That we attended weekly and built a really close community within. Now with only Nova home, we find enjoyment in weekly Toddler Time. Which has been perfect for socializing for me and her. Usually there is a calendar of events located on the website. And in some places on a bulletin in the main entrance. Checking periodically is your best bet because I have found that they add things throughout the month.
2. Atlanta Parent Magazine
The Atlanta Parent Magazine is perfect for finding things to do with the kids. The Magazine also publishes articles related to different parenting themes, seasons, holidays, and so much more. I have found it to be great reading material. Monthly issues are usually uploaded to the site a week in advance. Which makes for the perfect timing to schedule out weeks. The pro is they give you all the info you need. Such as dates, times, prices and a short summary of what to expect. Making this a one stop shop for parents. There’s something for everyone, with a lot of things being great for the whole family. Now I will be honest some issues are better than others. Like the spring and summer. Which lists all the pools, splash pads and sometimes even the best parks to visit. You can check it out for yourself at www.AtlantaParent.com
3. Macaroni Kid
Similar to Atlanta Parent, Macaroni Kid is separated by State and then areas. So whether you are looking for something in town or headed out, this site can be your best friend. Once on the main page you select your location. Then you can navigate through the calendar and helpful lists like “Family Friendly Restaurants in Atlanta”. Not to mention this site is ran by moms who volunteer their time. To keep us updated. And they do a pretty good job at it. Head to Macaronikid.com to see for yourself.
5. Parks & Recreations
Different parks have their own calendars and even mailing lists. Head to your county or city’s website and navigate to the parks and recreation section to locate their calendar. For Atlanta that’s where you will find events and programs for families, the kids and even seniors. You can also find sports and extra curriculum activities and registration information, along with pool openings and more.
